NZ Sauvignon Blanc Twitter Tasting 5/16

Next Wednesday, May 16, from 5-6pm, I’ll be participating in the Thirsty Girl Twitter Tasting (https://twitter.com/#!/beathirstygirl) with Villa Maria Wines (https://twitter.com/#!/villamaria_wine), Master of Wine, Alastair Maling (http://twitter.com/alastairmaling) and head Thirsty Girl, Leslie Sbrocco–and you can too! I think you can guess from this photo of Alastair from the Thirsty Girl website that we’re going to be in for some laughs.

Everyone is welcome to ask about New Zealand wines and in particular Sauvignon Blanc. Just use the hashtag #TGTaste so we can find your tweets! In particular, I am interested in learning more about the winery’s environmentally sound and sustainable practices, of which they are proud. We will also be celebrating Villa Maria 50 years of wine making and leadership in New Zealand. Learn more about the tasting here: http://thirstygirl.com/blog/2012/04/25/tgtaste-villa-maria/

My pals Annie Any-Day, Bacchus Schmaucchus, and Ima Zinner will be helping me taste and tweet about the  two “official” wines which I will be receiving any day as samples http://cmp.ly/2:
2011 Villa Maria Estate Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc – SRP $14.99

2011 Villa Maria Estate Cellar Selection Sauvignon Blanc – SRP $21.99

We’re going to pair the sauvignon blancs during the tasting with fresh raw oysters, home made Ceasar Salad, bread, olive oil (I have a new organic one from Napa Valley Naturals that I’m excited to try), and goat cheese (possibly from Drake which I can get that morning at our local Farmers Market). If I get a chance, I will make homemade pesto…so many yummy fresh, healthy, summery foods go so well with sauvignon blanc! Yay!

Then we’re going to taste, research, and write about this month’s Wine Blogging Wednesday prompt about good wines for a bad work day…and enjoy whatever Marshall Money-Bags grills for us–which I am hoping will be Copper River or just wild Alaskan Salmon since it’s usually in season from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day! (Hmmn, sounds like a pinot noir kind of meal…a wine that certainly works for me after any day of work–or play!)
