You’re invited to the Second Annual  Central Coast Wine Day, Friday May 31, 2013!

#CCWineDay follows in the footsteps of various #VarietalDays that have been going on for a few years. These include  Cabernet Day, Albarino Day, Tempranillo Day, Pinot Noir Day, Zinfandel Day, and even Wine Tourism Day! (As you can see, I enjoy participating in these varietal days!)

Personally, I say the Central Coast begins with Ventura County, where I live. But since most of my local wineries use grapes from Santa Barbara, Paso Robles and Monterey, anyway you slice it, my favorite local wineries fit right in! (Read more about a few of them including Cantara, Four Brix, Ojai Vineyard, Old Creek and Vino V here).

You can find just about every varietal being grown in the central coast but we are justifiably famous for our Pinot Noir (yes, think Sideways), Chardonnay, Grenache, Syrah and many more.

Tastings and tweetups are going on at many locations within the Central Coast and across the world to celebrate the grapes grown in my backyard.  All you need to participate is a bottle of wine from anywhere in the Central Coast and a twitter handle or Google+ account. Share your thoughts and follow along using the #CCWineDay hashtag.

So what are YOU opening for #CCWineDay? In anticipation of today, last night I opened an amazing complex, luscious and delicious Rhone blend from Old Creek Ranch Winery! Today it’s a gorgeous color (where can I buy that color lipstick??) and showing dusty rose petals and carnation, loads of stewed plum plus raspberry and spice (cinnamon, cloves). This versatile wine would pair with just about anything you’d want–or be enjoyed with appetizers or alone!!

Personally, I’d go with lamb on the grill–burgers, chops, rack–but I’m going to try it tonight with Copper River Salmon. The opulence, succulence, and complexity in this well balanced blend of Mourvedre, Grenache, and Syrah will pair well with the richness of a simply prepared grilled salmon.  Cork closed bottle graced with graffiti artwork from Barcelona, this wine is a tribute to Spanish winemakers who have adventured beyond the limits of their traditional DOC. 13.9% alcohol. Sorry to say, you’ll have a hard time finding it unless you take a trip to the winery or order it from the online–which is well worth it at $25!
